Culture: Alcohol

HOT TIP: If you have your own supplies of alcohol with you, it is nice to offer to share some with your guide or with any musicians who play for you, as many younger men enjoy a little alcohol. Don’t be offended if they refuse. Enjoy responsibly with them if they accept...

Although Morocco is a mainly Muslim country, it is also a major wine-producer, and very lovely some of its wines are too! It also produces lager and imports other beers and spirits.

  • Alcohol is available to buy in most large towns - usually in supermarkets - but not in more remote areas like the Dades Valley.
  • Alcohol is rarely served in restaurants, especially outside of the major cities
  • Some restaurants and hotels allow you to ‘bring your own bottle’ - check with the management or with your guide
  • Drunken behaviour is regarded with strong disapproval, so partake in moderation.
